Friends,

For those who are following our poetry series, I’ve set up a chart — let’s call it a Lab Notebook — where you can refer to what we’ve covered so far. I’ll continue to update it as we learn. Each new post in the series will have a link to it. Apologies that I can’t figure out how to display this material in a clearer, less cluttered way.

What you are seeing is two rows, three columns each, for every half-verse in the poem:

  • Row 1

    • 1-A: the verse number and whether this is the A-line (1st half of the verse) or the B-line (2nd half of the verse)

    • a — b — c: This labels the words and phrases to match them with their parallels in the other half of the verse.

    • When Israel came out from Egypt: an English translation of the line.

  • Row 2

    • בְּצֵ֣את יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם: the Hebrew of the line.

    • b’tzeit ➙ yisrael ➙ mi-mitzráyim: the Hebrew in transliteration

    • at-going-forth-of ➙ Israel ➙ from Egypt: as literal an English translation as I can make

Links in between the verses will enable you to access …
