Last time we read the beginning of Gen 6:4, a parenthetical statement that I translated this way: “(The Nephilim were on earth in those days.*).” I promised I would explain that asterisk today, so now we’ll continue with the next few words of the verse.
4 [*And afterwards too, …] וְגַ֣ם אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן
Yes, these next few words of the verse begin a footnote to the parenthesis. Today we’re going to talk about who might have written the parenthesis, who might have written the footnote, and why they were written at all.
