Two Different Aramaic Consonants May Match the Same Hebrew Consonant
Example: Hebrew שׁ may appear in Aramaic as שׁ—or as ת. So …
שָׁלוֹם is שְׁלָם, but …
שָׁלוֹשׁ is תְּלָת. (Yes, the vowels can change also; see Lesson 2.)
Common Consonant Alternations
Aramaic ד may sometimes be Hebrew ז.
Aramaic ט may sometimes be Hebrew צ.
Aramaic ע may also sometimes be Hebrew צ (or rarely ק).
Aramaic ת may sometimes be Hebrew שׁ.
Aramaic ר may sometimes be Hebrew נ.
